Day 1: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Today was beyond what I could have imagined for how incredibly fun and informative this senior project would be. For my senior project, I will be living in Manhattan, and commuting to Brooklyn, NY, every morning to intern on the set of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, an award-winning Amazon Prime television show that is currently in the process of filming its fifth season. Today on set was the final day before filming begins tomorrow, so I have already been able to experience a lot of what happens during production and there is still so much to do. After meeting with my mentor, she explained that she would be shuffling me through all the different major departments of the show so I can get an idea of what is necessary to create even just one episode, let alone an entire series, but also so I can familiarize myself with each in case one of them sparks my interest and may be a career I pursue. The first job I had was to read the script front to back for the episode they are filming, then I attended a table read where every member of production (directors, producers, actors, costume design, set design, etc) were all present to officially go through the script as a whole. After this, I attended a production meeting where they worked through each scene of the episode to ensure that each member of the production team was on the same page with the details of the episode before filming begins tomorrow. After this, I commuted back to Manhattan and took advantage of some much-needed downtime. After my first day, I’m looking forward to tomorrow and whatever department they will throw me into, and I’m also looking forward to the many more people I am going to meet during this project and hopefully, some of the connections I make here will help later on in life when I pursue Film and Media Studies in college.
