Day 6: Recovering with Cinema

Hours Today: 5

Hours Total: 28.5

Today was a turnaround day for the studio (recovery day), so I took the liberty of beginning the second component of my senior project that I will be working on for the next week or so in addition to my time on the set of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel: “professional” movie review/critique. I figure that senior project is a perfect opportunity to incorporate my love for the consumption side of film and television by watching a collection of critically acclaimed cinema and creating my own short review and breakdown of each, giving my own perspective on what makes each film great or perhaps as great as some say. Today I watched two incredibly well-known films: Apocalypse Now and Memento. Simply put, Apocalypse Now is a tormentous psychological movie that takes place during the Vietnam War, following a Captain on a mission to eliminate a rogue General. The other film, Memento, is an incredibly underrated Christopher Nolan film that follows a man with an extremely rare and detrimental case of memory loss as he tries to track down the man who murdered his wife. Both of these movies are layered and psychologically provoking pieces of cinema, and I will be preparing a series of reviews between now and the end of senior project so that I can share my perspectives with members of this community in hopes of inspiring at least one person to look at film in a new light.
