Hours Today: 8.5
Hours Total: 46
Since the beginning of this project, I have been commuting to Steiner Studios in Brooklyn to work on the set of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Today was the first instance where this changed; instead of traveling to Brooklyn, I traveled to midtown manhattan to sit in with the Head and Assistant Choreographers of the show and get a view into the world of dance. Out of any department thus far, choreography is likely the one I know the least about and have the smallest chance of pursuing, but it was still truly a lot of fun to sit in on the auditions and witness a lot of really high-class dancing. I got to watch dozens of professional dancers come in and work on a handful of numbers. Additionally, I got to watch the choreographers create routines and coach the dancers which was a clear example of their experience and pure brilliance when it comes to dance choreography. This lasted most of the morning and early afternoon, and then I watched my fourth movie of the project that I will be writing about for Express Fest: La Haine. La Haine is truly a masterpiece, following the subsequent events and experiences of a group of French teenagers in the aftermath of an incident of severe police brutality.
RIVER! Your experiences on the set of the MMM sound fascinating! I love that you are looking into all of the moving parts that go into a production of this nature! I hope you are having a wonderful time and can't wait to read more about your time in Brooklyn!
