Today I spent the day with the Wardrobe department of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Over the course of the morning and afternoon, I was given an incredible amount of insight into the true amount of time and effort that goes into curating thousands of accurate, impressive costumes daily. Additionally, I saw firsthand the process of fitting actors and tailoring each article of clothing to perfection that the department is responsible for every day. I am not particularly interested in wardrobe and costume design as a potential career, but getting to see the seemingly infinite moving parts that make up this side of the production was another reminder of the absurd scale of this show. One of the most interesting aspects of this department is that the massive scale can almost entirely be attributed to the fact that the show is placed predominantly in the 1950s and 1960s, so every costume is created with incredible detail to be the most accurate and believable it can be, even if the person that wears it isn't one of the main characters. This is truly a testament to how uniquely impressive the show’s production is, and the amount of detail they strive for is beyond evident and is likely why they have been so successful since the first season was released.
